Kijiji and Kangalou keep renter messages in their own inboxes and email you an alert. Rentals.ca emails you each lead, and Zumper links leads to your account’s email and phone. Marketplace listings run from your personal Facebook profile. After hours, send every alert to someone who will reply, and list a phone number someone answers. In RentEngine’s own data for January to March 2025, 58% of leads came in after hours (RentEngine, Q1 2025).
Where do listing-site inquiries actually go?
To an inbox on the site, an email address or a phone number you set on the listing. Kijiji and Kangalou keep the conversation on their own platform and email you an alert, while Rentals.ca emails you the lead itself.
So evening coverage has three jobs: get alerts and lead emails to someone who reads them at night, make the listed number ring a phone someone answers, and reply where the renter will see it.
| Site | How inquiries arrive | How to answer after hours | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kijiji | A message in Kijiji Messages, with an email or app notification; email addresses are masked in most conversations. | Reply from the notification email or in Kijiji Messages, from the account that posted the ad. | Kijiji |
| Kangalou | The renter creates an account and messages you; you get an email alert and reply in the Management section. LesPAC and ListGlobally inquiries arrive by email. | Give the evening person the alerts and the account, and answer partner emails directly. | Kangalou, Kangalou help |
| Rentals.ca | An email for each inquiry; a phone number is not required. App alerts need a promoted listing. | Forward lead emails to an inbox answered at night, and if you list a number, make sure someone covers it. | Rentals.ca |
| Zumper and PadMapper | Zumper: leads tied to the account’s email and phone, plus in-app messaging. Zumper distributes listings to PadMapper; send a test inquiry to see where PadMapper leads land. | Add the evening person as a guest in the conversation, and cover the account’s phone. | Zumper, Zumper |
| Facebook Marketplace | The listing runs from the personal Facebook profile that posted it. | Write a phone number into the listing text and answer it at night. | Meta, Meta |
How do you answer Kijiji inquiries at night?
Reply from the notification email or in Kijiji Messages. Whoever covers evenings needs those notifications, through the account’s email or the Kijiji app.
Kijiji delivers each inquiry directly to the landlord who posted the listing, and you can send and receive messages on the website and through email notifications, with app notifications if you turn them on (Kijiji). You can answer by selecting Reply in the notification email, and eligible rental listings also offer a Request a Viewing option where renters share their availability (Kijiji). Kijiji masks email addresses in most conversations, though not always for professional listings and certain business accounts, and keeps messages for 60 days from the first one (Kijiji).
Slow replies show. Seller profiles can display an average reply time, from within 2 hours to within a few days, and a reply rate, and Kijiji calculates response times from your messaging history (Kijiji).
Check the rules before you connect any tool. Kijiji’s terms of use forbid using a robot, spider, scraper or other automated means to access Kijiji and collect content without its express written permission (Kijiji terms).
How do you answer Kangalou inquiries at night?
Watch for Kangalou’s email alert and reply in the Management section of the account. Renters must create a Kangalou account to write to you, so first messages arrive on the platform.
Kangalou, launched in 2015, works this way: the renter creates an account and sends a message, you receive an email alert, and you reply through Management to set up a visit (Kangalou). Listing is free, and the Globetrotter and Star packages also publish the listing on LesPAC automatically (Kangalou packages, Kangalou help). An international option publishes it on more than 100 real estate websites in over 60 countries (Kangalou packages).
Inquiries from LesPAC and ListGlobally arrive as emails that you answer directly, and those renters can see your email address (Kangalou help). If your account has a phone number, it is visible in the international listings, so that line needs evening cover too. The evening person needs the Kangalou login and the inbox that receives both the alerts and the partner emails.
How do you answer Rentals.ca inquiries at night?
Forward the lead emails to an inbox someone reads at night. Rentals.ca emails you each inquiry, and a phone number on the listing is not required.
Posting on Rentals.ca is free, with optional upgrades for more visibility (Rentals.ca). Inquiry and contact form emails go out through SendGrid; if leads go missing, Rentals.ca suggests checking junk and spam folders and adding include:sendgrid.net to your SPF record (Rentals.ca). App notifications for new email leads only work on promoted listings, and the Leads view keeps a copy of your email leads while phone leads are only documented, not tracked (Rentals.ca).
Test the forwarding with a real inquiry, and check the spam folder of the receiving inbox too. If you want the reply handled for you, Nolan gives you a Nolan address for your listing emails, reads lead emails from listing sites and replies in the same thread.
How do you answer Zumper and PadMapper inquiries at night?
Add the evening person to the conversation as a guest, and cover the phone number on the account. Zumper ties each lead to the email address and phone number you used to create the account.
Zumper lets you post up to 5 listings a month for free and distributes listings across Zumper, PadMapper, ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and more (Zumper). PadMapper lists rentals in Canadian cities including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Quebec City and Winnipeg (PadMapper). Send a test inquiry from the PadMapper side to see where it lands.
Leads also arrive through Zumper’s in-app messaging, and you can add guests to a conversation so other email addresses can respond to the renter (Zumper). If you post through a feed or syndication provider, Zumper says delivery may differ, so check with that provider (Zumper).
How do you answer Facebook Marketplace inquiries at night?
Write a phone number into the listing text and answer it at night. Marketplace runs from personal profiles, and Meta’s business messaging platform does not mention them.
Marketplace is tied to people’s own Facebook profiles: Meta’s March 12, 2026 update shows buyers an overview of the seller’s Facebook profile, including how long they have been on Facebook and their number of friends (Meta). Meta’s Messenger Platform lets a business’s Facebook Page or Instagram professional account respond to people who message them, within 24 hours, and its overview does not mention personal profiles or Marketplace (Meta).
Meta’s terms also forbid automated data collection without its express written permission (Meta terms). Meta did add optional AI auto replies to “is this available” questions in March 2026, drafted from the listing’s details, but its announcement does not mention rentals or name any countries (Meta).
How many rental inquiries really arrive after hours?
More than half, in the only dated figure found, and it is vendor data. RentEngine’s own report for January to March 2025 says 58% of leads come in after hours, and that most prospects reach out evenings, early mornings and weekends (RentEngine, Q1 2025).
Read it with care. The report gives no sample size and no definition of after hours. RentEngine’s post on the first quarter of 2026 gives a newer figure: “53% of leads arrive after hours, and 48% of showings are scheduled after hours” (RentEngine, May 21, 2026). No Canadian dataset was found. The same Q1 2025 report says only 47.8% of leads schedule a showing (RentEngine, Q1 2025).
Your own share is the number to act on. For a month, log each inquiry’s time and channel, then count how many arrived outside the hours someone was answering. The missed leasing call guide shows how to put a dollar figure on the ones you miss, and answering rental inquiries after hours covers the evening routine.
| What to count | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Inquiries outside staffed hours | Timestamps on alerts, lead emails and messages |
| Inquiries by site | The sender address or platform of each alert |
| Phone inquiries | Your call log, since Rentals.ca does not track phone leads |
| Replies sent the same evening | Sent folder and each platform’s message history |
How do you check where your leads land?
Send yourself an inquiry from every live listing and follow it. The same test works on sites not covered here, such as Louer.
- Use an email address and phone number that are not on your listing accounts.
- Set a forwarding rule for each alert’s sender address, and check the receiving inbox’s spam folder, since Rentals.ca sends through SendGrid.
- Write to a Kangalou listing through LesPAC as well, if your package publishes there, and confirm the partner email reaches the evening inbox.
- On Zumper, add the evening person as a guest and confirm their reply reaches the renter’s side.
- Call each listed number in the evening and see who picks up.
- Repeat whenever you change a listing plan or package.
